Former WWE Star Luna Vachon Found Dead
-written by Matthew Evans @ 07:21 PST

It is with great sadness that we at Smash Wrestling report that former WWE valet and female wrestler Luna Vachon has died at the age of 48.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer has confirmed the tragic news, saying that Vachon was found dead at her mother's home in Florida on Friday morning (August 27, 2010).

Luna (real name Gertrude Vachon) was the daughter of Paul "Butcher" Vachon and the niece of Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon. Her Aunt Vivian was also a wrestler and was considered to be the best of the early 1970's female performers.

Luna got her big break with the WWF in 1993, making her official debut at WrestleMania IX and during her run there, she had a brief feud with the late Sensational Sherri and managed the late Bam Bam Bigelow. She also served as a manager for Japanese female star Bull Nakano, aiding her in defeating Alundra Blaze (Madusa) for the WWF Women's Title.

Following her departure from the WWF in 1994, Vachon worked for ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) and famously teamed with Tommy Dreamer in a Steel Cage tag-team match in which she was the only female participant.

After a brief run with WCW (World Championship Wrestling) in 1997, Luna returned to the WWF as the odd-ball sidekick of the "Bizarre One" Goldust (who was now going through his most-unusual "Artist Formerly Known As Goldust" phase). She had a memorable feud with Sable before joining the fan-favourite "out-cast" group, The Oddities.

In 1999, Luna revived her rivalry with Sable and began managing and teaming with her real-life husband at the time, Gangrel (The Vampire Warrior).

In 2000, Vachon was let go by WWE, but she resurfaced in the WWA (World Wrestling All-Stars) and fought her husband Gangrel in an entertaining series of "Black Wedding" Hardcore matches. (Vachon and Gangrel divorced a few years ago).

Luna had suffered from bipolar disorder and had been in WWE-sponsered rehab twice; most recently between April and June of last year.

She'd recently been staying with her mother after losing her possessions and her home in a fire.

Details of her death are pending autopsy results that are expected to be released shortly.

She is survived by her two sons and one granddaughter.

Everyone here at Smash Wrestling offers their sincere condolences to the friends and family of Luna Vachon.

Check the columns board for a full tribute to Luna.

WWE Fires SD! Diva, Former Diva Gets TNA Try-Out
-written by Matthew Evans @ 15:17 PST

The Sun's wrestling journalist Rob McNichol has reported that WWE SD! Diva Serena Deeb has been fired by the company after reportedly irking them with her antics outside the ring.

Serena was the only female member of CM Punk's "Straight-Edge Society" (the other members being Punk himself, Luke Gallows and Joey Mercury). She made her on-screen debut earlier this year as a "fan", who volunteered to be "saved" by Punk and "repent" her "life of vice." To do this, she had to have her head shaved bald, a look which she and the other SES members retained to show their "purity."

Recently, she made her in-ring debut on SD! in a match where her and Gallows' victory ensured that they remained in the SES faction.

Apparently, reports in the U.S. have suggested that she was axed this past week for breaking WWE's strict rules on partying, after reportedly ignoring previous warnings from the company.

Meanwhile, former WWE Diva Katie Lea-Burchill received a try-out with TNA Wrestling this past Monday. Joining her was indy star Christina Von Eerie.

Katie Lea (real name Katarina Walters) fought Madison Rayne and was said to have been impressive in the ring, as well as popular backstage (TNA announcer Jeremy Borash even praised her on Twitter).

Von Eerie (who's based in California and previously wrestled for AAA in Mexico) teamed with Shannon Moore and defeated Okada and TNA's newest Knockout Becky Bayliss.
