WWE Legend Roddy Piper Arrested For DUI
-written by Matthew Evans @ 14:07 PST

The Sun Online's wrestling journalist Simon Rothstein has reported that WWE Legend Rowdy Roddy Piper has been arrested for DUI (Driving Under The Influence) in Los Angeles.

Piper, 55, was reportedly caught by police at 1AM local time this morning (July 2, 2009). Apparently, he was then held on £3,000 ($5,000) bail at a jail in the Hollywood division, before being released at 07.54.

It is believed that the "Hot Rod" will now have to go to court on July 23.

Piper (real name Roderick George Toombs) is one of the biggest names in wrestling history. He became a huge star in the 1980's during his feud with "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan (probably THE biggest star wrestling has ever seen) and headlined the first "WrestleMania" event in 1985.

During a hiatus from wrestling, Piper received critical acclaim for his starring role in the sci-fi cult favourite movie "They Live". He also served as the co-host of the short-lived "Celebrity Wrestling" show on ITV in the UK and in 2005, was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

More recently, Piper was involved in the "legends feud" involving Chris Jericho, and along with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, competed at WrestleMania 25 in a 3-On-1 Handicap Match against "Y2J".

Just last week, Piper stated in a radio interview that Vince McMahon and WWE were trying to get him back on board for a story line on Raw or SD!.

Earlier this year, Piper spoke out about drug and alcohol abuse within the business, as well as the staggering amount of premature deaths, saying:

"Thinking about the friends, the brothers I've lost, makes me feel lonesome. I lived with these guys, literally."

TNA President Dixie Carter Talks Company Growth, WWE & More
-written by Matthew Evans @ 15:17 PST

TNA President Dixie Carter recently gave an exclusive interview to TNA Wrestling.Com and spoke of how the company has expanded over the last 7 years and has continued to prosper during these harsh economic times.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

[Credit: TNA Wrestling. Com]:

Dixie On The Growth Of TNA & Their Future Goals:

"We’ve set very high, very realistic goals along the way, and I don’t think there’s been one (goal) that we haven’t met or exceeded.

We have not been infused with hundreds of millions of dollars, nor had a parent company that is a network. We have fought hard for every bit of success we have attained. We’ve done it fan by fan, success by success. And that, to me, is what makes TNA special, because it truly is a company of the fans; they’ve been the ones who have allowed us to grow."

Dixie On The Ratings That TNA "IMPACT!" Currently Achieves:

"I think we have accomplished more in the last six- to 12-months than we have in the last several years. I look at our ratings over the last year, and they are up more than 20 percent."

Dixie On A "Ratings War" Between TNA & WWE:

"We want everyone’s ratings to go up. In order to succeed, we don’t think we have to take ratings away from anyone else. As a wrestling industry, we all have to grow the fan-base worldwide.

We can’t just say we’re going to beat Raw (in the ratings). Right now, that’s unrealistic. We had to start with a more obtainable goal to beat the ratings of our competitor’s third-rated show, ECW – and we’ve done that. "

Dixie On The TNA Fans & The Wrestling Audience In 2009:

"The audience of 2009 is significantly different from the audience during the height of the WWF-WCW run. And we have to continue to change accordingly. Today’s fans are smarter, more involved. They don’t want their intelligence insulted, and we have been guilty of that at times in the past. Can we please everyone all the time? No, that’s not realistic. But you have to strive to please them much more than not."

Dixie On "Making New Superstars" In TNA:

"The landscape in TNA over the next 12 months is going to change dramatically. Our veterans are here to show that their greatness is beyond themselves and to help create other superstars. These (veterans) are secure enough to know that that’s what is needed for this company to continue to grow. Their leadership in and out of the ring is unmatched."
