"WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Torrie Wilson as of today, May 8, 2008.
We wish Torrie the best in all her future endeavors."
The Sun Online's wrestling journalists, The Lilsboys have posted a tribute article to Torrie, along with a photo gallery.
Torrie was recently forced to retire from in-ring competition due to a serious back injury. In post on her official MySpace blog, she said the following:
[Credit: The Sun Online]:
"I have been told by two back surgeons that I should never set foot in a wrestling ring again if I want to be moving around in a few years on my own.
Pretty depressing if you ask me.
I don't even have some awesome memory of what my last match even was or who it was with. Hopefully it was with Victoria and I beat her!
I guess everything happens for a reason for sure."
While Torrie wasn't on the level of female grapplers like Trish and Lita, she still showed improvement in the last few years of her career and was always determined to "have a go" and be more than another pretty face.
Torrie joined WWE March 2001, following the collapse of WCW (where she had previously worked for 2 years, after becoming a successful fitness model). She made her WWE debut in June of that year as (yet another) apparent "love interest" of Vince McMahon (however, her advances turned out to be a trick and poor Vince was caught by his wife Linda with his trousers literally down).
Over the next few years Torrie worked as a valet and/or "gimmick" performer (i.e. she competed in bikini/lingerie/ "Wet N' Wild" Diva bouts), though her role had been somewhat reduced even prior to her hiatus from TV.
Along with everyone else, we at Smash Wrestling wish Torrie all the best for the future and thank her for the memories.
