Well here it is. The transcript
of the exclusive radio interview with Lita on Talksport
1093 am (UK) - www.talksport.net (webcast) with Tommy
Boyd.
Before I go into the interview
much Kudos goes to Tommy Boyd and the TalkSport team for
letting SmashWrestling.com have this and for calling me
up (Mark Chapell of smash) and playing this back to me,
twice.
Interview starts off with Tommy
Welcoming Lita to the UK
Tommy kicks in with asking her
if she has been to the UK before.
Lita mentions that she has been
to London before on the back of the last UK PPV. When
she was 19 she flew into London as she had friends in
Germany. It was a time when if a train came in she would
just jump on it to see Europe. Goes onto say that the
visits when promoting a PPV's are really a whistle stop.
Tommy makes a small crack about
a lot of English people being like William Regal (our
Goodwill Ambassador!)
Lita says that she's not bumped
into anyone like Regal yet!
The conversation turns onto
the topic of wrestling and how she got into the scene.
Tommy mentions about her stay in Mexico where she first
picked up on the wrestling trail.
Tommy asks, does she think that
because of the bigger profile Lita and others are getting,
does it make wrestling easier to break into?
Lita says that she went to Mexico
because she knew of no other way to break into wrestling.
When heading into Mexico she didn't know of any official
courses. She went their blindly and just managed to get
people to help her out. There was no school as such but
just attended an informal crash course.
The conversation turns again,
and for those that don't know, Lita used to be in a Band.
Tommy asks, would she be interested in being in a band
again?
Lita says wrestling takes up
100% of my time so it's not a priority any more. Goes
on to say that she's not opposed to the idea but wrestling
consumes her time.
Back to wrestling and the subject
of RTC and Ivory is talked about. He asks how deep does
the ivory thing run? And does she think that RTC will
be over soon?
Lita answers, "with Ivory it's
a toss between not worrying about her as she is too aggravating
but that she does have the women's title which I would
like".
Tommy asks the obvious question
next on the list concerns the Hardy Boys. Asking about
them and her present career direction, will she be going
solo soon?
Lita puts the Hardys over and
says that "I feel secure being with them". However she
does enjoy the singles competition but still wants to
be with the Hardy's.
Things move on again and Tommy
puts over the fact that wrestling in the UK at its present
rate of growth could soon be a realistic career path.
Tommy asks Lita what kind of girl could become a wrestler
Lita talks about that when she
was a teenager that she knew it was something she wanted
to do and persistently followed that path. Say's that
anything as a teenager is uncertain but wait until at
least after you graduate high school. Advice offered is
to consider going to a wrestling school to learn the basics.
It then comes down to being persistent, outgoing and an
independent go getter. It takes someone with an outgoing
personality to take that extra step because if you don't
then someone else will be willing to.
Tommy brings up the talk about
parents being worried about children doing backyard wrestling
and how the WWF puts across its message..
Lita mentions the WWFparents.com
homepage, as the WWF try to take the responsible approach
to kids safety. She talks a little about how much training
that they have to do. "With any show its tempting to act
like their heroes. Whether it's Batman jumping or Spiderman
climbing off wall. It's the job of the parents to tell
them you can't do what you see on television". Again puts
over WWFparents.com
Tommy goes back to the start
of Lita's career she is asked about the people that she
would watch at the start of her career. People like Mankind?
Lita says she was a big watcher
of WCW and remembers watching the likes of Flair and Piper
remembers Rey Mysterio and Psycosis when they were just
starting out
Tommy asks Lita who she likes
to watch.
Lita - Always watches the Hardy's
and does live near them. Others that she enjoys watching
are Beniot, Hunter Rocky and Molly.
Finally Tommy moves on to take about Insurrection and
the popularity of the WWF.
Lita puts over that it simply
sold out within 90 minutes and talks a little about the
big breakfast show which she recently appeared on, she
also talks about when she met someone who queued for over
a week to get tickets.
At the end of the interview
Tommy mentions that she looks even better and fitter "as
in physical stature" than the camera does for her on the
TV
End of interview
As I said above I got to listen
to this tape not long after and managed to talk to Tommy
of Talksport Radio and he put across that she was a complete
professional at all times and even spent a little time
with her kids. It was a joy to interview her.
When I listened to the interview
she came across as a consummate professional who appreciated
being where she is in her career.
